The National Parks Administration (APN) presented a comprehensive report in the case investigating the disappearance and possible death by hunting of the jaguar Acaí, an individual released in October in Impenetrable National Park. In the document, filed with the Federal Court of Sáenz Peña, the agency detailed the calculation of the environmental damage caused by the loss of the animal, valued at $2,673,280,260 (two billion six hundred seventy-three million two hundred eighty thousand two hundred sixty pesos). APN emphasized that this species is declared a National Natural Monument. The calculation was prepared by the agency's National Directorate of Conservation, based on a specific methodology. According to their explanation, the method "starts from a monetary base that increases according to indices related to the fragility and protection of the species and the potential recovery of the damage caused." With this economic valuation, the goal is "to establish an amount for economic compensation or sanction for the offender," in accordance with the corresponding regulations. Finally, APN reiterated that it continues to be available and providing "all its means to the judicial process" investigating the loss of the individual.
